Elbow River Griffith Woods Park, Trails and Paddles

Location: Discovery Ridge Blvd. SW, turn left on Discovery Ridge Link

If you’re looking for a bit of nature within the city limits, Griffith Woods Park is a great option. The park consists of 93 hectares of white spruce forest and wetland habitat along the Elbow River. It was created in 2000 and is named after Wilbur Griffith whose estate donation made the park possible.

Park in the large lot complete with seasonal bathrooms and start your adventure. There is a variety of trails to explore from paved to dirt and gravel with boardwalks over the moisture laden areas. You can hike or bike easily along all paths that are all basically flat so it makes for an laid back and enjoyable time.

You can make the trip as long or as short as you want with the variety of trails. There is a ton of unique wildlife and plants to view that you would normally have to drive an hour or so to find outside of the city. Visit this gorgeous park for a taste of nature right here in Calgary!
