Anchor D Ranch, Trails and Paddles

I was recently engaged, wandering around the Outdoor Show here in Calgary. A familiar face drew me over to his booth. It was the wise-cracking, moustached Dewy from Anchor D, a ranch just west of Turner Valley on highway 546. It was Dewy who gave me the grand idea of having a bachelorette weekend at his ranch.

It really was the perfect weekend. We spent a night in their cozy cabins, drinking beer around the fire, and barbequing. They have everything you need there for a comfortable stay including a complete kitchen, made beds, shower and laundry.

We kept the drinks to a reasonable amount because early the next morning we met our guide by the horse pen for our trail ride. Each of us was matched up with a horse depending on skill level and experience (we basically had none). Once we were saddled up we headed out the gate and on the trail.

The horses were incredibly well behaved, except for the odd time they reached down to snack. Not aloud when they are on duty! Our guide was friendly and informative, answering all our burning questions about the ranch and horses. The area surrounding Anchor D is gorgeous with forest valleys, rolling hills and mountain views. We even listened to a bugling bull elk and saw the herd run past through the trees. No surprise that they also offer hunting trips.

Our trip was only two hours, a perfect amount if you have inexperienced riders, kids or girls that are hungover with you (the dangers of a bachelorette party). But they offer a variety of trips from 2 hours to 4 – 7 days as well as sleigh and hay rides. You can even book a ride with Mantracker! We had an amazing weekend there and I’m so grateful that Dewy was at the Outdoor Show to give me the idea for our bachelorette trip, that marketing master.

They have all their info available on https://anchord.com if you are interested in paying them a visit.
